End of Year Updates

Hello Families!

We are looking forward to a great 12 days full of fun, learning, and time together as a classroom community. Below are some updates regarding past/upcoming events. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Be on the lookout for more updates regarding the end of year show, field days, and Maple Street Park as those dates get closer.

Girls on the Run Impact Project

Girls on the Run are collecting non-perishable food items to donate to Aunt Dot's Pantry. The items will be delivered to the pantry on Monday, June 3rd. If you are able to send in donations with your child this week please do! Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Audubon

We are excited for our trip to the Audubon tomorrow! Please help your child prepare for a great day.
  • Mud/rain boots- or an old pair of sneakers that you can get wet and muddy
  • Jacket- even on a sunny day the Audubon can be 10 degrees cooler than Essex Junction
  • Long pants- no shorts may be worn during the field trip. Students can change into shorts upon our return to school if needed
  • Apply bug spray and sunscreen before school
*We will be eating lunch at the Audubon so please remember to pack your child a lunch from home unless they ordered one from school in advance.

*Volunteers, please reach out if you did not receive the e-mail with driving and parking directions.

Brownell Library Visit

We had a great time on our visit to the Brownell Library yesterday. Thank you to Mrs. Duggan for setting up this event for us. We learned all about what the library has to offer to the community and beyond. Many were excited to learn that the theme this summer is all around Outer Space! Calendars with fun events happening at the library will be sent home before the end of the school year. You may also visit the library website at any time! More about the Big Change Round Up

This year, Summit is helping raise money for the UVM Children’s hospital by participating in The Big Change Roundup and we need your help.  Together we can help kids and families get the care they need at the hospital when they need it most.  Last year 2.35 tons of change valued at $330,000 was donated, proving that EVERY DIME makes a difference!

So check those couch cushions, pockets, and piggy banks for any loose change and drop it in one of the collection cups outside of Room 4.  The last day for the coin collection will be Monday, March 11th. Thank you!

The Big Change Roundup

Friendship Day- Book Exchange- Guest Teacher

Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone enjoyed the snow day!

We had a wonderful day celebrating friendship today. It was heartwarming to see and hear all of the thoughtful compliments students shared with each other. You will get a glimpse of the kindness on your child's friendship day bag that they brought home today.

Due to missing Learning Center on Wednesday, we will have the opportunity to exchange library books tomorrow, Friday, February 15th. Please remind your child to pack their library books and home reading books tonight.

I shared with students today that they will have a guest teacher for the next 5 days of school. I will be attending a conference in Burlington tomorrow, and another conference in Phoenix, Arizona next week. If all travel goes as planned, I will be back at school on Friday, February 22nd. I know that this group of flexible 2nd graders will continue to work hard while I am away!

Best,
Ms. Novotny

Happy 100th Day!

100th Day

Wow- it's hard to believe it's already the 100th day of school! We began the day with a celebration led by 1st grade. Second grade students who created a 100th day project had the opportunity to share what they made.

In math, we started learning about money! Next week will be learning some new games to practice our coin identification and coin counting skills.

With our Kindergarten learning buddies we made 100 Day Books.

10,000 Fuzzy Sun Celebration: Sparetime!

We will celebrate all of the safe, kind, and responsible behavior demonstrated at Summit Street School by going bowling on Tuesday, February 12th. We will be gone from 8:30 am- 11:00 am.

Book Orders: Book Orders are due on Friday, February 15th. You may order online or send in completed order forms with payment.

Have a great weekend!

Progress Reports

Good Afternoon Families!

In your child's backpack this afternoon, you will find a white envelope with his/her Progress Report. Please read and recognize all of the hard work and accomplishments your child has made so far this school year. Please keep the Progress Report and return the white envelope with your signature on the front to verify that you have received this important document.

You will also find an impressive stack of work that your child has completed in math and social studies. I am always impressed by the quality and quantity of work they complete everyday.

Book Orders are due on February 15th, with the hope that they will arrive in time for February break.

Have a great weekend!
Ms. Novotny
